PERCEPTUAL MOTOR skills PROGRAM (PMP)
Ulmarra was the first school in northern NSW to introduce this particular program. It is a research-based program and aims to develop memory skills, language skills, confidence, problem solving skills and physical education skills.
It enables teachers to quickly identify children in need of help. It is well documented that many learning difficulties stem from missed stages in motor development. For instance, missing the crawling stage in the first year of life can affect brain development and therefore propensity to learn.
Following the introduction of this program, our literacy results have been outstanding.
Students gain balance, coordination, cooperation, strength, learning in Maths and English, and perception of themselves in a sequentially structured series of varied activities.
